As an experienced serial entrepreneur and over a decade as an operator working in and out of the Middle East region and Saudi Arabia in particular, I’m tremendously honored to lead Pilatus Capital’s expansion of the fund into the region. Pilatus will take advantage of the substantial opportunities presented through ongoing economic diversification efforts as well as deep investments in the clean tech, life sciences, and much more in this region that is vital the global energy transition. Incredible opportunities are being created by programs like Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a massive economic and social reform blueprint that is opening the Kingdom’s business opportunities and culture to the world.
“The world is in a race to decarbonize the global economy, prioritize clean technologies and renewable energy sources, provide affordable and increasingly accessible healthcare services to a growing population, all in a way that continues to create wide-reaching prosperity, meaningful careers, and wealth for future generations.
Pilatus Capital’s focus on these key sectors – as well as our unique model of backing enterprises with large, total addressable markets in early stage of development with transformative technology – helps us to provide the support needed for entrepreneurs and companies we back to change the world. It also positions our fund to provide for potentially enormous multiple returns for our limited partners. The vision, expertise, integrity, and entrepreneurial experience of the general partners, Dr. David Teece and Sebastien Belanger, as well as the strength and brilliance of each of the Pilatus team members, is a powerful accelerant we seek to deploy to support the businesses that will define our future.
As a lifelong athlete in both team sports and individual, I believe in the power of competition to bring out the best in us. Yet, I have grown to understand that defeat is one of life’s greatest teaching moments. Those of us who learn from its lessons get stronger and better. Ignore these tough lessons, which occur to all of us nearly every day in ways both big and small, at your own peril.
I believe the privilege of life must be celebrated at every possible moment with curiosity, the tireless pursuit of knowledge, and the fervent embrace of friendship. President Theodore Roosevelt said it best, and I have this quote placed prominently in my home as a daily reminder: “Get action. Do things; be sane; don’t fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action…. The joy of living is his who has the heart to demand it. Life is a great adventure, and I want to say to you, accept it in such a spirit.”
When I’m not at my desk, traveling for business or embracing the opportunity to connect with people in person or on calls, I relish time spent with my two very young children, whose existence lights up my soul and gives me a bottomless well of hope for our future.
